Hello Human Artist, We No Longer Need You – Said the AI Software Program
Maj 16th, 2012It seems as if robotics are replacing human factory workers, farm laborers, and soon transportation, distribution, and military people too – but what if I told you that artists, writers, sculptures, and other creative geniuses’ jobs were also on the line. It’s true you see, so, I’d like to discuss this all with you if I might.
There was an interesting albeit terrifying article for artists in the UK Mail recently titled; „The Monet machine? ‘Art-ificial’ painter improvises all its works – and often surprises its creator,” by Rob Waugh which stated that the; „Software chooses which colours and techniques to use; reads emotions then picks a technique, and; then can ‘improvise’ itself by reading blogs and news stories.
Okay so, basically this is telling the artist, just as Amazon told the publishing industry; „you are no longer needed” and thus, say goodbye to all the human artists trying to make a living, and no I am not gloating, just because I am not an artist and love technology, nor because I predicted this and everyone said I was crazy that computers could never put out the quality of art that humans do – plus, as a writer in my retirement, well, I know I am next.
Soon, AI computer systems will be putting out novels, poems, and short-stories in abundance, no author, even one as prolific as I will be able to compete in the future. AI software systems are already writing much of the news we read, and most people don’t even know it, the final versions they read are merely minor edits, perhaps a paragraph or two at most in a lot of cases. We are really just one step away from ending the careers and the money flow for millions of artists in the US and 10s of millions world-wide.
Do you doubt what I am saying? Now then, some of the other nations, such as emerging nations, the labor is so cheap, that it doesn’t make sense to automate their work yet, although that too will come to pass I am afraid. No, not exactly what I’d call „winning the future” and this is going to be a problem for prolonged unemployment in the first world and problems leading to poverty, hunger, and challenges globally.
Consider if you will a painting machine putting out works of art at a rapid pace at the level of Leonardo da Vinci, in fact, done so well, you’d swear it was made by the artist himself. What’s is that going to do to the artistic community. Please consider all this and think on it.
